I've played music most of my life. As an older gentleman, my peak playing abilities are behind me. During the course of my musical experience I was always compelled to tinker with the recording process. This interest led to the collection and storage of some of the music I've created with my own hands. Some of this is on reel-to-reel, some is on cassette, and some is on a cupful of SD cards.
While AI tools like Suno can manufacture music from little more than a descriptive prompt or a whistled tune, it can also be used as a creative post-production tool to embellish and revive old tracks with modern technology.
Tools like Suno and others have come under fire by artists and corporations alike because they have been trained on a steady diet of copyrighted material. I would argue that the collective know-how derived from existing sources is how everything improves.
The debate continues and programs like Suno, now operate under a tightening web of copyright filters and corporate label‑driven restrictions. Luckily, an old garage-band practitioner like myself has no trouble putting my amateur tracks through the system to come up with some new music that preserves my musical intent, but executes on a much higher level.
